Going Big

This weekend we built an insane launch ramp that catapulted ourselves into a giant lake. Here are some thoughts into our weekend of going big...

We pull up to the lake and start setting up the ramp and we began looking at the transitions between the downhill and the ramp. Meanwhile, all the ladies were getting very very nervous. Most people would say what we were doing was very stupid. But it actually was very calculated.

  • I commissioned others in the vision (from start to end)
  • We spent time researching the building of the ramp
  • We buit the ramp to have the right angle for launch
  • The ramp was build SOLID (this thing could take a vehicle on it)
  • We cleared out the runway area
  • We moved the ramp around until it was perfectly planted and secure near the water
  • We tested angles, stability, distance and clearance

I feel often life is like building a launch ramp into a lake. We sometimes are too afraid of the unknown factors and we sit and worry about the potential pitfalls. We worry about all the bad things that will go wrong and not about the possible good things that will happen.

We are so afraid of taking a chance and that we might fail. So what do we do... we do nothing at all and we miss out on the great outcome of our lives. We guarantee failure this way. You will loose 100% of the races you never enter. When you get to the starting line, at least there is a chance.

I believe there is so much potential in our lives but we are just too afraid. Once you set your eyes on a goal (ie launch ramp into lake), the first step is to research and do your homework and to start creating a plan of action. Commit to a non-negotiable series of benchmarks.

As you move through the benchmarks, the potential outcome becomes more and more clear. You begin to visualize it more and more and begin to feel how it will feel to experience the victory. Sometimes I feel some of the best outcomes of my life have been in the face of others calling it 'stupid' or 'dangerous.' Yet they were very calculated and focused on the potential GOOD not the BAD.

Why do we do that? Why do we focus on the ways we can talk ourselves out of something? Talking ourselves out is so much easier than encouraging ourselves to go for it. We need others to keep us acountable to it.

And guess what happened... as soon as one person jumped the ramp, everyone else knew it was possible. Suddenly others began to visualize themselves going for it. One by one, people began going off the ramp. Not every jump turned out perfect, but whoever launched accomplished a great feat. It was a day for victory.

What vision do you have that you're afraid of?
